Things to Do
Saturdays are the day to head to the Wendell Farmer’s Market. The market strives to be a producers only market which is defined as someone who makes or grows their own product for sale. At the Farmer’s Market discover fresh fruits and vegetables from local farmers. Also get delicious, local jam, jelly, bread and more to treat your friends with back at home. Enjoy the Wendell Harvest Festival that is coming up on 100 years of this great event. The day includes a parade, kid’s village with slides, inflatables, hay rides just to name a few, stage performances and vendors with lots of delicious food. The town hosts a July 4th celebration for all ages to enjoy. Come enjoy the International Food and Music Festival a community cultural celebration. Need a gift take a visit to the Wendell General Market offering a variety of North Carolina and local products. While there have an ice cream cone you won’t be sorry you did! Finish out the week with Wendell’s Meet on Main. A community event that ushers in the weekend with beverages, food trucks and great music.
Restaurants
Grab you friends and dog and head over to the Bearded Bee where the focus is on high quality traditional craft beer. A gathering place for the community the Farm House Café is known for their attention to seasonal eastern North Carolina ingredients. Farm House Café’s believes that personal connections are best found over food and drink. Come meet your neighbors and enjoy healthy fresh food. Nothing like the smell of fresh coffee. After retiring from Ford Motor Company Mike Carty took his passion for coffee and opened Workbench Coffee. It doesn’t get any fresher than Workbench Roasters where small batch whole bean coffee is freshly roasted in Wendell. Find Workbench Coffee at local markets across the Triangle and online too! 41 Coffee North is a wonderful addition to Main Street Wendell. A community gathering spot where everything on the menu has a story. It’s not just coffee, it’s community.
Schools
Wake Tech Community College’s Scott Northern Wake Campus opened in 2007 and serves students from Wake Forest, Rolesville, Knightdale, Wendell and points north. The 127-acre campus offers a robust University Transfer program as well as an Associate in Fine Arts degree program. It has the distinction of being the first college or university campus where every building is Leed’s certified. Wendell is located in the North Carolina’s fastest growing county. The highly rated Wake County Public School System serves the students of Wendell. Charter, magnet, private and religious.
Recreation
With lots of land and greenspace to enjoy Wendell has several options to take advantage of. Enjoy a leisurely day of canoeing, kayaking or fishing at Robertson Millpond Preserve (open weekends only). Soak in the sites of the historic mill dam and the bald cypress habitats. Ample green space and it’s easy to get out year-round on the miles of trails and paths are what makes Wendell Park a popular destination. Disc Golf in Wendell Park is an 18 hole course that residents can enjoy or if you want traditional golf tee it up for 18 holes at Wendell Country Club. The Master Planned Community of Wendell Falls in partnership with Triangle Off-Road Cyclists and the trails will span the undeveloped 1,400 acres of Wendell Falls, yielding up to 10 miles of public hiking and biking trails. Everyone is welcome to enjoy the serenity and gardens of Turnipseed Nature Preserve. A 265-acre park with open space, gardens, hiking and walking trails to enjoy.
